10 Tips to Look Busy, Even When You’re Not
A guide for those who know the system
You are the man — or woman, whatever the case may be. After a few twists and turns in the job market, you find yourself working in an atmosphere where you can get your work done more quickly and efficiently than your colleagues, or its a job where it doesn’t matter if you’re on top of things or not. You must find a way to look busy, even when you aren’t, or people will get wise to your slacking.
It doesn’t take a masters degree to do your job, not really. What you have to do is find time to work your playtime into your job-time without getting caught if you are going to keep your sanity somehow. Here are a few tricks of the trade that have worked, for some people — so I’ve heard — over the years.
1. You’re always running late.
No matter what the real situation might be, you must always walk at a brisk pace as if you are late for a meeting, or trying to stop someone from accidentally submitting the wrong files for the Johnson account, whomever the Johnson’s might be.
Taking it slow and enjoying that cup of java in the breakroom is not to be fooled with. Remember, you are late and don’t have time for coffee breaks. Get your cuppa joe and take it back to your office and close the door, if that’s an option for you…
