Remember when we logged into our Facebook accounts and were able to connect with friends we hadn’t seen in a while? We enjoyed catching up. Seeing what each other had been into. Sharing our highs, lows, trials and errors.

Then there were games! People used their smart phones to interact on social media and could play games there too. This meant they could also play games on their home computers or laptops, and play the same one on their phone. Pretty cool ideas.

Competition

Then there was competition.

MySpace died and Facebook survived. Newcomer LinkedIn arrived for professional social media “networking”. Instagram — Snapchat — Twitter — Pinterest! The list goes on.

There was myriad of social sharing platforms pouncing on victims within the world-wide-web.

Leveraging

As with any new technology, it was only a matter of time. Entrepreneurs would learn to leverage these platforms. Use them to market and sell their goods and services. Ads became the norm. Thanks to quality algorithms, our preferences and likes enabled the advertisement tailoring. Using our actions to “improve our experience”.
